Off Leash Areas

Share

Way back in 1994, a small article ran in the Seattle Times and P-I announcing a public meeting, chaired by Jan Drago, at Seattle Center. The agenda was to discuss the possibility of organizing a radical idea- Off Leash areas for dogs in Seattle.

The attendance overflowed the room, and a new chapter in Seattle dog joy was launched. After some contentious meetings which extended over the next 18 months, a Pilot Program was initiated based on the work of volunteer groups. These groups eventually formed COLA (Citizens for Off Leash Areas), which continues to act as volunteer stewards of the off-leash areas today.

There are other local off leash groups whose tireless efforts keep these areas available for romps and swims. We encourage you to support your local OLA (Off Leash Area) group in whatever way you can.
