Healthy Paws is a relatively new entry into the pet insurance pool. It was started in 2010 by two friends in Bellevue, WA.
Healthy Paws is not just a pet insurance option. The company supports homeless and adopted animals through their Foundation, which partners with local pet rescue and adoption groups. The Foundation provides resources, professional services, and donations to pet adoption organizations.
The company offers referral discounts and makes a $25 donation for each policy written. Policies do not include routine veterinary exams, and have few exclusions, outside of pre-exisiting conditions.
Healthy Paws plans offer unlimited lifetime benefits with no annual or per incident caps. There is a deductible for each claim. Dogs or cats can be enrolled between 8 weeks and 14 years of age.
An easy to read sample contract is available on their website.
Our standard disclaimer:
With any pet insurance policy, be sure you read and understand what is, and is not, covered by the policy. If a policy does not specifically state a condition is covered, there’s always a chance that it is not. Know your rights and procedure (if any) to appeal a determination.
Keep in mind that an injury or treatment that is “related” to an excluded condition can sometimes be deemed an excluded condition. Ideally, you would like a list of covered conditions to eliminate any question of what will be reimbursed.
