Have you heard about the two-faced cat who has just earned a spot in Guinness World Records?
No, it’s not the lead in to a joke. Just ask Frank and Louie’s caregiver, Marty.
Frank and Louie is a Janus cat who has beaten the odds and celebrated his 12th birthday last month. Janus cats are named for the Roman god with two faces. These cats, born with 2 faces, normally do not survive beyond a few days.
Frank and Louie was brought to Tufts Veterinary Clinic to be euthanized when he was one day old. Marty Stevens, a veterinary nurse, offered to take him home and care for him. Since he had 2 faces, he ended up with 2 names.
Despite having two faces, Frank and Louie has one head and brain. Fortunately, only the right face (Frank) is connected to the cat’s stomach. This may well be why Frank and Louie has fared so well. And, of course, because of Marty’s care!
