Back in May of last year many people lamented the announcement that Procter & Gamble was buying Natura, the manufacturer of Innova, California Natural, Evo, Karma and Healthwise foods.
At the time, quite a few pet owners decided to switch to a different food. The word we heard was that P&G, a large corporation, was not to be trusted with the quality of the food which Natura had built their reputation upon. Our position at the time was a bit more cautious, since this was strictly a change in ownership and not a change in formulation.
Early this month, Natura announced that they would be reformulating their Innova line of food and treats. In a letter to retailers and distributors, the announceent was made that all Innova formula except PRIME would be “upgraded” to include the following enhancements:
- more poultry and fish
- greater variety of colorful, whole and fresh ingredients
- new fruits and vegetables
- whole grains including brown rice and oats
- removal of white rice and potatoes
What will this mean for your dog? It remains to be seen what the new formulations will actually include. We’re anxiously awaiting our first glimpse at the new ingredient panel, due to arrive this summer.
This is the type of news that should be of interest to all Innova users. While it is not unusual for a manufacturer to reformulate their line, this will be the first indication of how P&G will be making its mark on the well established Innova foods.
With the reformulation of the Innova line, we’ll be watching to see what, if any, changes in pricing and digestibility the new formulas bring with them.
