Grain Free pet food preference
Grain free foods have been gaining in popularity over the years. Grain free formulas are usually higher in protein, and price. Most are of excellent quality, and can be a useful tool when trying to address food sensitivities. They are also useful for certain medical conditions, including cancer.
Grain free diets are typically low carb diets, but the label information may show otherwise. While grain in food is not necessarily bad, some pets will show marked improvement when they are removed from the daily diet. Grain free foods can also be a useful tool when searching for a limited ingredient formula.
A low carb, high protein food is often recommended for pets who have been diagnosed with certain types of cancer or diabetes. Some raw diets, home prepared diets, or grain free kibble can be a useful tool for these situations.
Some grain free diets are formulated specifically to be used with, or as an alternative to, a raw food diet. The ingredient list may be similar, but keep in mind this is still a processed food. There will be some nutrient loss as compared to the content of a raw diet.
